Request inputs
Give the person quoting enough information to avoid a fictional parcel
- Product code, category, quantity, and important included pieces for each line item.
- Known item weights with source and unit; label unknown figures as estimates.
- Whether retail boxes, hangers, inserts, protective cases, or individual packing must remain.
- Expected packed dimensions when volume could matter.
- Destination country or region and any postal-area detail requested by the responsible provider.
- Desired route or service level, plus any timing requirement that affects the comparison.
Quote anatomy
Read every shipping quote as a bundle of assumptions

Illustrative comparison
Quote A looks lower but uses estimated item weight, excludes protective packing, and does not state a dimensional rule. Quote B looks higher but uses packed measurements, names the route, includes service charges, and gives a validity date.
The right conclusion is not automatically “choose B.” First ask A for the missing basis and place both quotes on the same parcel, route, currency, fee scope, and date. If that cannot be done, record them as non-comparable.
Beyond freight
A shipping quote may not be the landed total
Product value, domestic movement, packing, consolidation, service charges, insurance, route surcharges, taxes, duties, brokerage, storage, remeasurement, address conditions, and local delivery can sit outside a quoted freight figure. Which items apply depends on the responsible services, destination, route, and current rules.
Do not ask an album page or editorial guide to guarantee customs, tax, transit, delivery, or claim outcomes. Confirm current terms with the responsible service providers and authorities.

Use the quote to compare, not to create certainty
If the parcel is not yet packed, keep a range and name the assumptions. Once the responsible party measures the actual shipment, replace the estimate without deleting the earlier record; the difference helps you improve later comparisons.
